Michael learning a vented natural trumpet

Posted on Posted in In the studio

This is an example of the use of natural trumpets for more advanced students. The instrument in the foreground is a hose horn fitted with a vented yard (in this case, a copper tube with finger holes) that allows the player to make certain notes in the upper register sound more “in tune.” The student is Michael Werner, a High School freshman. The music is from Fanfare #2 by Johan Dismas Zelenka (1679-1745). Amazing what’s possible on trumpet with no valves! [wpvideo 38pTMaf0]
